The 5 Best Places to Go on a Surf Vacation

The true definition of surfing is that desire of being in the water and having the freedom to conquer a strong force that can take you to places you haven’t been before. Surfing presents a whole different world for you. Same as a new drug, it can get addictive. But surfing minus the big waves is much like drinking hot beer. 1. Gold Coast, Australia

Undeniably, Australia is famous for its world-class beaches and waves which are the best ingredients for a perfect surf vacation. Gold Coast is the sixth most populated city in the country and it is found in the southeast corner of Queensland. It is well-known for its subtropical climate, the surfing areas and the canal systems. Although a bit expensive, it is a great surfing destination for newbie and pros alike.

2. Mentawai Islands, Indonesia

Located off the western coast of Sumatra, the Mentawai Islands is one of the best surfing destinations in Asia. All of its seventy islands and islets are rich in monstrous waves. Its four main islands that block off most swells form going towards the mainland serves as a Mecca for wave-hungry surfers who are in search of a great surf vacation and an adrenaline-pumping adventure. For your surf vacation, these islands can only be reached by sea and only through ferries and charter boats.

3. Jeffreys Bay, South Africa

Jeffrey’s Bay is near the Eastern Cape portion of South Africa. Just about an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth, it is considered as one of the most popular surfing destinations in the world. In June, July and August which are the winter months, surfers from around the world gather and enjoy the great rides in the beaches of Kitchen Windows, Boneyards, and Super Tubes and many more.

4. Fuerteventura, Spain

Fuerteventura is often called as the Mecca of Surfers. It’s part of the Canary Island and is considered the second largest of all of them found in the Atlantic Ocean. Fuerteventura is a personal favorite of many surfers for the reason that it can be visited any time of the year. Its temperature won’t go lower than 18 degrees Celsius or higher than 24 degrees Celsius. But the seasoned surfers would frequent the place during the months of October to March.

5. El Salvador

Also known now as the Republic of El Salvador, it borders Honduras and the Pacific Ocean. The place is now becoming more popular because of the famous surfers like Sunzal, El Zonte and La Libertad who frequent it. The reason – El Salvador is not a crowded place making it a perfect destination for a spontaneous and intimate surf vacation. The main swells come during the months of March to October which coincides with the rainy season which enables the waves to rise to as high as 10 feet.
